Ghost Story

(TJR)
2003-02-01
TJR / Kathy Barrett / Andrew Ferrara

From the CD Mixed Emotions:

Just trying to stretch out on this one and push some boundries. Andrew came up with the bass line first and we wrote the rest of the song around it. Eddie Jones sings the "Voice of the Narrator" .

IT WAS ON A FRIDAY NIGHT MY BABY CAME HOME TO ME
SHE'D BEEN AWAY FOR SO LONG NOW, THAT I COULD BARELY BREATHE

WITH A GENTLE KISS SHE CRIED AND WHISPERED IN MY EAR
THAT SHE WOULD NEVER LEAVE AGAIN, AN END TO ALL MY FEARS

WITH A JOYFULL TEAR WE WENT OUT TO CELEBRATE
THE CLOCK STRUCK CLOSE TO TWELVE AS MY ENGINE REV'D & RACED

THE WIND HOWLED UP TO HEAVEN WHEN SHE ANNOUNCED TO ME
A CHILD SHE WOULD HAVE, A FATHER SOON TO BE

LEDGEND TELLS A STORY OF A GHOST WHO WALKS ALONE
DENIED OF HIS BRIDE TO BE HE WENT AND CUT HIS THROAT

MUST HAVE BEEN HIS GHOSTLY BREATH THAT MADE THE ROAD LIKE ICE
TOOK MY BRIDE AWAY FROM ME - MY BABY GONE DONE AND DIED

IF I CLOSE MY EYES REAL TIGHT I CAN STILL HEAR HER SCREAMS
THE MEMORY OF THE CRASH THAT NIGHT PLAYS OVER IN MY DREAMS

I LIVE IN A WORLD OF PAIN, NO ONE COULD UNDERSTAND
THE ONLY THING THAT GIVES ME COMFORT IS THE WARM KNIFE IN MY HAND
